Abstract:Discusses the difficulties inherent in de-selecting (or weeding) a library collection. Examines the issue of making sound judgments regarding what should be weeded and how. Suggests alternatives to discarding books, such as remote storage, selling them back to patrons, and sharing within a consortium.
Annotation:This article gives information on alternative solutions to weeding and making common sense judgement calls in regard to specific volumes.
Search Strategy:I chose Dialog to search multiple databases. I thought I would get a broader range of results using the databases of the American Library Directory, Library Lit. & Info. Science,Eric and Social SciSearch. After reading up on these databases in the bluesheets I thought they would give the best results for the topic.
